Northeast Harbor New Construction

Tucked into a granite ledge overlooking Northeast Harbor on Mount Desert Island, this striking modern barn redefines what it means to come home for the summer. Designed by Lake | Flato Architects and finished by Stephanie Rae Interiors and Bloom Building and Construction, the retreat blends New England tradition with modern-day functionality and just enough fun to make it unforgettable.

For the client — a hospitality executive and devoted grandfather — “The Barn” was imagined as a legacy project for future generations. Acting as the bridge between a remote client, Texas-based architect, and Maine-based build team, our team managed every detail to ensure seamless communication, timely execution, and a result that felt deeply personal.

The finished retreat balances Lake | Flato’s architectural precision with warmth and craftsmanship, for a coastal Maine home designed for laughter, wellness, and rest. From reclaimed WWII shipyard flooring to a 14-foot hand-selected granite fireplace, every element honors Maine’s character while embracing the rhythm of the owner's family life and hope for the future.
